All Right, Yogi Bear, I’m Ready For My Close-Up

So, everyone’s favorite pick-a-nic basket stealing, intellect boasting cartoon bear is headed to the big screen. In a move that worked well for Scooby-Doo and Alvin and the Chipmunks, Yogi Bear is getting his own live-action/animation hybrid movie. The majority of the movie will be live-action, with Yogi, Boo Boo, and who knows, maybe even Cindy getting the CG treatment. Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia who occasionally produced and wrote for “That ’70s Show” are writing and Ash Brannon, a Disney/Pixar vet who most recently co-wrote and co-directed Surf’s Up and also has a name that sounds like it was plucked from a romance novel, will direct.

It seems pretty much par for the course with the success of Scooby-Doo and the Chipmunks (i.e. hundrends of millions of dollars). It won’t be long for a version of Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks to come along so sometime can capitalize on the “I hate those meeces to pieces!” catchphrase. I personally can’t wait until we get Thundarr the Barbarian and the Herculoids. Those were cartoons!
