Tarzan And The Reimagining

by Furious

So, it’s been a few years since we’ve had a non-animated movie about a naked guy climbing around in trees. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stephen Sommers is in negotiations to direct a new Tarzan movie. Guillermo del Toro was originally attached to direct, but he’s turned his life over to working on the two Hobbit movies. Now the visionary director of such overwrought movies as Deep Rising, The Mummy, and Van Helsing will have a crack at it.

The article bills it as a reimagining, which, due do it’s over-over-overuse in the marketing of the confounding Plant of the Apes remake, has given the movie a cinematic scarlet letter for me. I don’t think I’ll be spending much time with this tramp. The word reimagining is pure evil and should be whitewashed from the history books so as not to subject future generations to this horrifying concept.

The one promising prospect about the movie is that Sommers will probably cast Kevin J. O’Connor (he has in nearly every other movie he’s made), which is never a bad thing. I wish more of the praise that befell There Will Be Blood splashed over onto his performance.
